Obama walked out to a U2 song at his farewell address, and gave everyone all the feels

“In the city of blinding lights…”

LAST NIGHT, PRESIDENT Barack Obama delivered his farewell address.

In an emotional speech, Obama looked back on his eight years in office, paid tribute to his family, colleagues and staff, and asked Americans to “believe”.

My fellow Americans, it has been the honor of my life to serve you. I won’t stop; in fact, I will be right there with you, as a citizen, for all my days that remain. For now, whether you’re young or young at heart, I do have one final ask of you as your President – the same thing I asked when you took a chance on me eight years ago. I am asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about change – but in yours.

It was fierce emotional altogether.

But people were emotional before Barack Obama even took to the stage, thanks to his entrance music.

The outgoing President walked out to City of Blinding Lights by our very own U2, a song that was featured heavily in his 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

And the opening notes were enough to turn everyone into a nostalgic wreck.

After all, it’s practically his theme song.

One that he’s used for a whole decade now.

Hence the tears.

Back in 2008, Obama ranked City of Blinding Lights as one of his all-time favourite songs.

He subsequently enlisted U2 to perform the song at his inaugural celebrations.
